We focus on the link between atomic, molecular and supramolecular behaviour and the useful properties of a material. Our research encompasses a wide range of materials systems, including organic materials and polymers, 2D materials, nanomaterials and nanoporous materials.
We apply our knowledge to develop new technologies that are essential to address the key challenges facing modern society in sustainability, energy, health and the environment.
Two research centres are devoted to specific aspects of Materials Chemistry: the Organic Materials Innovation Centre and the Centre for Nanoporous Materials, while the work in Manchester is also a key component of the Knowledge Centre for Materials Chemistry (KCMC)
