The school offers a three-year PhD and a one-year MPhil (although both can be taken part-time if desired). PhD and MPhil students are linked to one of our research groups where they work on a research topic of their choice.

Taught degrees
These programmes are generally available as a one-year MSc or nine-month Postgraduate Diploma (both available part-time). MSc and PG-Dip students spend two semesters attending taught courses before completing a project.

Graphene NOWNANO offers you an opportunity to join the select group of students working with some of the world’s leading scientists on two-dimensional materials, including graphene – the 21st century’s wonder material. It is a unique Centre for Doctoral Training run by specialist academics and working alongside more than 120 graphene researchers at The University of Manchester, in partnership with Lancaster University.

The mission of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Nuclear Fission - Next Generation Nuclear - is to develop future research leaders to support the UK’s strategic nuclear programmes, including nuclear legacy clean-up, new build power stations and defence and security.
