      Professor David Leigh's group have been awarded a five year £1.7m ERC Advanced Grant to carry out their work on the design, synthesis and operation of synthetic molecular machines (www.catenane.net). ERC Advanced Grants are elite grants for Europe's top researchers and a scientist can only hold one such grant at a time. Professor Leigh is one of just two chemists Europe-wide to have received two ERC Advanced Grants, having being awarded one in the inaugural funding round in 2008.
