Natrajan Group: 2nd joint student workshop on f-element chemistry “f-Kom
Following the success of the 1st German-UK joint student workshop in 2014 held at The University of Manchester, on the 9th and 10th of June 2015, Peter Kaden (KIT-INE, Karlsruhe, Germany) and Louise Natrajan hosted the second joint student workshop on f-element chemistry at the Akadamie Hotel in Karlsruhe, Germany.
This joint venture by The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and The University of Manchester included plenary talks from world experts in the area of f-element chemistry including Terry Todd (Idaho National Lab), Horst Geckeis (KIT-INE), Michael Patzschke (HDZR, Dresden) and Melissa Denecke (UoM) and participation of students, postdocs and academics from Karlsruhe Institute for Technology, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Dresden, Forschungszentrum Jülich and The Universities of Cologne, Erlangen and Heidelberg.
The workshop was established to strengthen the ties between the two international partners and help fill the approaching gap in nuclear competence through education. The event, sponsored by the German BMBF-funded project “f-Kom” was a great success with a great attendance from the University of Manchester, School of Chemistry presenting talks and posters."
