Dr. Alex Jones appears on Channel 4’s Food Unwrapped

On Monday 4 August, an interview with Alex by the TV chef, Matt Tebbut, was aired on Channel 4’s food and science programme, Food Unwrapped. 

He explained to Matt the photophysics behind why the quinine in tonic water glows blue under UV-light, as well as describing some of the applications of fluorescence. With behind-the-scenes help from postdocs Peter Harvey and Roger Kutta, a demonstration of quinine fluorescence was set up and filmed in the first floor teaching labs in the Chemistry Building.
