Professor Douglas Kell receives a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2014
Congratulations to Professor Douglas Kell who has received a CBE in the New Year's Honours List 2014 for Services to Science and Research.
Douglas was Chief Executive of the BBSRC from 2008 to 2013. In that time he made enormous contributions to UK bioscience, seizing opportunities to deliver new knowledge, economic growth, jobs and improved quality of life. His leadership helped to shape the direction of research in the UK and secure large investments in bioscience, including capital funding for projects such as UK Research and Innovation Campuses, Synthetic Biology Research Centres and e-infrastructure.
Professor Kell said: "It is a great honour for me to receive this award, both personally and as an acknowledgement of the importance and standing of UK bioscience. I have been passionate about bioscience for as long as I can remember and it is most gratifying to see the outcomes of that passion being recognised in this way.
“As I return to my research, following five years as BBSRC Chief Executive, I am able to reflect on the achievements during that time. I feel and am privileged to have been part of an organisation that has shaped the bioscience landscape to deliver benefits for us all.”
