The University offers an Orientation event which all students can attend. It is strongly advised by the university that International Students attend. Orientation events will start on Thursday, 14 September and end on Sunday, 17 September. Core presentations will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, giving you crucial information about your new life and study in Manchester. There will also be workshop sessions that will allow you to find out more about key topics such as healthcare and immigration. More information and booking form for the event can be found here.
All students who don't speak English as their first language are highly recommended to take the online English Diagnostic Test. The test covers areas such as grammar, depth of vocabulary and general writing skills. This will help the University in knowing what level a student is currently at and what help they will require. More information and the test can be found here. There are no repercussions for getting a low mark in the test and free help will be made available to those students who are seen to be struggling. It is therefore highly useful if you feel like you may struggle with elements of the English language.
The International Society is a non-for profit, independent organisation with links to the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford. Established in 1966, it provides cultural and social support to any international students who wish to use their services. With around 7000 students from over 100 different nations, the International Society prides itself on promoting international friendship and celebrating cultural diversity in the City of Manchester.
There is a shuttle bus service offered by the University, which is free for new students moving into Halls of Residance. It takes students arriving into Manchester Airport to the University owned Halls of Residence. Further information can be found here.
