Victoria Green
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Industrial Experience

"Manchester is a great place to live and learn. The School of Chemistry has excellent teaching staff and facilities. It also has links with many companies, which creates a great opportunity for my industrial placement year – during which I will gain not only vital industrial laboratory experience, but also influential references for later in my career."

Andy Yang

Andy Yang
BSc (Hons) Chemistry

"I think that Manchester is a great place to study and have fun. The staff in the School of Chemistry are really helpful and approachable, which are important factors for students to succeed. One thing I love about Manchester is that there is always something going on, so I'm never stuck in my room with nothing to do!"

Melissa Keogh

Melissa Keogh
MChem (Hons) Chemistry

"The University of Manchester has allowed me to study chemistry in depth. I love how varied the course is. You're not always sitting in lectures; there are labs, tutorials, PASS and subsidiaries – always something to keep your mind occupied. Manchester itself is a haven of activity, from the shopping to the nightlife – but there's always a quiet space to sit and relax, if you know where to look."

James Amphlett

James Amphlett
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry

"I chose medicinal chemistry because it will provide me with the essential knowledge needed to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. One of the most interesting aspects of my course is the lab work we do, in particular the synthesis of chemical compounds. After completing my degree, I plan on doing a PhD and then working in research in the pharmaceutical industry."

Nadia Intan

Nadia Intan
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Industrial Experience

"Chemistry with Industrial Experience gives me a first-hand opportunity to see what it takes to be involved in industry, and to learn how to apply my Chemistry knowledge in the world outside academia. Not only will I gain invaluable experience from the placement, and be able to include it in my CV, but it will give me the chance to stand out from the crowd once I graduate. I chose Manchester University as it is a city-based university which means everywhere is within walking distance. And with so much going on, Manchester is a great place to live."

Pietro Di Tondo

Pietro Di Tondo
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Study in Europe

"To be fluent in more than one language will be the key to success in the world of chemistry. The year in Europe gave me the added bonus of becoming entirely fluent in my chosen language because I used it everyday for both social life and academic studies. I really enjoyed my year in Italy, although I did miss Manchester!"

Thomas Holden

Thomas Holden
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Study in North America

"I chose to study at Manchester because I am hoping to find work abroad after graduating. Manchester has a fantastic world-wide reputation and offers the chance to study abroad as part of my degree. The financial support that is available from the University in the form of grants and scholarships was also a big deciding factor for me."

Benjamin Ball

Benjamin Ball
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Forensic and Analytical Chemistry

"Manchester is an exciting, vibrant city, which is a welcome contrast to my quiet home town. Forensics is a fantastic area of study, and combined with chemistry opens up many career paths thanks to its applications of analytical skills, covering a wide variety of topics including Drugs of Abuse, DNA sequencing and even Law. Currently I am undecided about my future career, but know that the skills I am developing will benefit me no matter what I do."

Alice Burrel

Alice Burrell
MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Forensic and Analytical Chemistry/MChem (Hons) Chemistry

"For my first 2 years I studied MChem (Hons) Chemistry with Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, finding the subsidiary modules to be both exciting and stimulating. In my 3rd year I wanted to pursue the medicinal aspects of chemistry, and as it is possible to transfer between certain degree programmes I was able to transfer to MChem (Hons) Chemistry, allowing me to choose a research project for my 4th year from a broader range of areas. I have been working on a project synthesising analogues of natural products for use as anticancer agents. My project is very rewarding and I have been given the opportunity to develop my lab skills to a level where I would feel comfortable applying for similar roles as a graduate. Manchester is a brilliant city; with students everywhere it quickly becomes somewhere you feel at home."

Ishita Jalan

Ishita Jalan
Home Country: India
BSc (Hons) Chemistry

"This University offers me a lot of scope and diversity to get involved in different things. The student life in Manchester is amazing and I have loved the experience so far - my first year has gone by so quickly. It is like my second home in Manchester. The School of Chemistry staff and students are very welcoming and friendly, and are all very helpful if I need help with anything at all. I am living in halls which allow you to make so many good friends from different countries and different courses, and is a place where you can relax and hang out after going to lectures all day. The sports facilities are really good. I enjoy going swimming in the Aquatics Centre."
