Professor Peter Budd: Manchester polymer helps protect people at work
The first commercial product utilising a type of polymer invented in the School of Chemistry has been revealed.
A polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM) is a key component of a new type of sensor that indicates when it is time for a user of industrial respirators to change their organic vapour filter. The sensor has been developed by 3M. The University innovation has been licensed to 3M by UMIP, the University’s agent for intellectual property commercialization.
