About Us
We are one of the largest Schools of Chemistry in the UK, with around 650 undergraduates and more than 200 postgraduate research students.
The School has comprehensive academic coverage across the chemical sciences, and excellence in depth in all the core sub-disciplines of chemistry, with over 80 postdoctoral researchers.
Chemistry at Manchester has a distinguished history of achievement. This tradition of excellence is being continued by our current research programme and by our excellent teaching.
In modern times we can point to Chemistry Nobel Prize winners such as John Polanyi (1986), and Michael Smith (1993) both of whom studied for their BSc and PhD here. Add to this the many Royal Society of Chemistry medallists at present on the staff and it forms a continuing tradition of which we are justifiably proud.
