Dr. Claire Eyers
Dr Claire Eyers is a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow (2007) and since 2009 has been the Acting Director of the Michael Barber Centre for Mass Spectrometry. Having come to the University of Manchester from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2004 to undertake a second postdoctoral position, she applied for a RS Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship while her first child was still a few weeks old. She now has three children and has extended her Fellowship to accommodate her periods of maternity leave. Her research group as also been expanding during this time to accommodate her interests in the mass spectrometric analysis of proteins and their modifications.
"Being a working mother, particularly with young children, is always challenging but the nature of academia and research means that the ability to be flexible is a requisite. The flexible nature of the environment within the School has supported my work-life balance, enabling me to focus on my different priorities as necessary."
